Our Story

How it all started...

A new church that could seat 150 was built under the leadership of Bro. M.T. Branham.  In 1898, Jefferson Keith gave a plot of land to be used as the final resting place for many of our members.  In 1927, the State Highway Department decided to build the Gadsden Highway known as U.S. Highway 11.  Central Baptist moved from the other side of the railroad tracks to be on the highway.  The building was built and they added Sunday School rooms.  In 1953 anther wing was added. On May 12, 1967, a new building was built, and the first service was held to dedicate that new building.

Expanding the vision...

November 2001, just after Thanksgiving, a tornado hit and toppled the new steeple, buckled the sanctuary's walls, damaged the windows, floors, carpeting in the children's classrooms and more.  Central sustained a half-million dollars in damages.  In late February of 2002 170 people filled Central's new sanctuary for Sunday worship again!

Where we are headed...

April 16, 2017, Rev. Dewey Corder led Central Baptist Church in the brand new addition and new sanctuary of the church.  Central Baptist continues to grow each year.  Central is a changing church in a changing community preaching a changeless gospel.  Central Baptist is involved with the surrounding communities, helping those around us while spreading the gospel.
